Besan Ladoo
These Besan Ladoo are soft, sweet, and melt right in your mouth. You'll love the warm cardamom and nutty flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 cups besan (gram flour)
- 0.75 cup ghee
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 0.5 teaspoon green cardamom powder
- 2 tablespoons sliced almonds or pistachios (for garnish)
Instructions
- Measure out 2 cups besan (gram flour) and set aside.
- In a heavy-bottomed pan or kadai, melt 0.75 cup ghee over low heat.
- Once the ghee is melted, add the 2 cups besan to the pan. Stir continuously to combine the besan with the ghee.
- Continue to roast the besan on low to medium-low heat, stirring constantly, for about 20-25 minutes. The besan will gradually change color from pale yellow to a golden brown and release a fragrant aroma. Ensure it doesn't burn.
- Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool down for about 10-15 minutes. It should still be warm but not too hot to handle.
- Add 1 cup powdered sugar and 0.5 teaspoon green cardamom powder to the warm besan mixture. Mix everything thoroughly with a spoon or your clean hands until well combined.
- Take small portions of the mixture, about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons each, and gently shape them into smooth, round ladoos. If the mixture is too dry to bind, you can add 1-2 teaspoons of melted ghee, one teaspoon at a time, until it comes together.
- Garnish each ladoo with a few slices of almonds or pistachios.
- Let the besan ladoos cool completely at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to firm up before serving. Store in an airtight container.
